Outfield Situation Solved?

Let's hope not for Xavier Nady's sake.

The Yankees right fielder left Tuesday night's 7-2 win against the Rays after feeling a sharp pain in his right elbow.

Nady
had Tommy John surgery back in 2001 on the same elbow and was alarmed by the severity of the pain.

He is scheduled for an MRI Wednesday morning in Tampa.

X gonna give it to YA, gonna give it TO y-- wait... THIS is TERRIBLE news. The YANKEE fans of GERMANY are devastated, because we're GERMAN and this is JUST terrible! Poor, POOR X-man! I love MATSUI, but I wish IT had been him instead of X. Despite HIS lack of GERMAN-NESS, Xavier is A great MAN.

Thanks, Bill!

I have to say, though, that I think the loss of Nady is more significant than most people realize right now.

Yes, Swisher's been hot. But he's a lifetime .245 hitter and his defense is occasionally suspect. He can play all three outfield positions and first, but he doesn't play any of them particularly well.

Nady had a more accurate arm and got better reads and jumps on balls in the outfield.

I also think there is something to be said for competition. Nady was declared the starting right fielder coming out of Spring Training but he had Swisher breathing down his neck, ready to supplant him if Nady didn't perform. Now it's Swisher or bust.

But we'll just have to wait and see how things turn out. I wouldn't be surprised if the Yanks made a deal for a corner outfielder before the break.

Oh, and check this out Jimi.

Perhaps he's German after all?
